FAQ

  • AN ALARM SYSTEM... WHY?

Among the experts, there will always be those who prefer electronic security to mechanical security and the opposite. Mechanical security is designed to deter burglars by delaying and complicating the actual break-in. Electronic security, on the other hand, detects the break-in and sends signals to the inside and outside. The outdoor alarm siren deters potential intruders. Another advantage of alarm systems, in addition to burglary protection, is the prevention of fires, a problem that is systematically underestimated.

  • SHOULD I GET A WIRED OR WIRELESS ALARM SYSTEM?

Wired systems are particularly suitable for homes under construction or renovation. The laying of cables requires work to install and conceal them. Wired equipment combines the advantages of low cost and high reliability. The compatibility of wired elements is quite broad for today's alarms. This type of system is very effective in protecting against intrusions, but their installation must be thought out in advance because the installations are permanent. The wired alarm systems are also hybrid, which allows them to have wireless elements (remote controls, sensors, etc. ...)

Wireless systems are particularly suitable for existing homes where cable installation isn’t possible. Their installation doesn’t require any particular work. The wireless equipment can only communicate with elements from its range but allows freedom of movement of components in case of changes in the interior of the house, additions or removal of components. The only disadvantage of a wireless system is the change of batteries in the system components.

In both cases, the risks of hacking and system interference are almost nil. The choice of one or the other depends on the possibility and what the user wants.

  • WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF A WIRELESS SYSTEM?

An alarm system with wireless components is more flexible to install and can be easily moved in the case of a renovation or restructuring of the room. Wireless components are also a useful addition to wired systems, if no power supply cable is available, for example, securing a roof window or basement.

  • HOW LONG DOES A BATTERY LAST BEFORE IT NEEDS CHANGING?

This depends on the activity and operation of an alarm. But in general, batteries in normal operation should be changed between 2-5 years.

  • WHAT IS THE RADIATION EMISSION OF A WIRELESS ALARM SYSTEM?

Wireless alarm systems generally use the regulated and standard frequencies of 434 MHz and 868 MHz for communication between the various elements (sensors, detectors, keypads, sirens etc. ...) and the alarm control panel. These frequencies are specifically reserved for the radio systems of security equipment and this is what essentially determines their level of protection.
Today, the encryption protocols of alarm systems are largely beyond the reach of even the most "experienced" burglars.

The periodicity of the communications can vary between 1 and 3 minutes according to the time frequency set at the sensor level. It does not emit continuously.

The power of propagation of the band 868 MHz is significantly lower than that of 433 MHz, for this reason the alarm systems in 868 MHz are deemed to have a lower range which is now compensated by equipment (transmitters/receivers) of greater power.

By comparison, a telephone emits a regular signal with a transmission capacity of up to 4W, while a wireless alarm system emits only a weak signal at regular intervals, respectively every 15 minutes (868 Mhz components), a signal with a transmission capacity of 0.1 MW.

  • CAN THE WIRELESS TRANSMISSION BE DISRUPTED?

There are a variety of devices in every home that operate in a 433 MHz, respectively 868 MHz frequency network, and they are used daily: Remote control, garage door opener, etc.
These devices differ with the transmission in their frequency range and in the coding of the signal. A radio call center performs a listening test every hour and analyses the frequency area to detect signals that could disrupt communication with your components. If this is the case, the information will be transmitted.

  • IS IT NECESSARY TO ESTABLISH A DIRECT CONNECTION BETWEEN THE ALARM SYSTEM AND A SECURITY COMPANY?

The connection is not absolutely necessary, but it is still a reasonable option, especially since rapid intervention by qualified personnel often prevents greater damage. It is important to consider, however, that automatic connection involves a monthly cost that may vary depending on the provider and the service.
